Who We Are

At Belfast FMC, we believe that God works in and through community. God has given us each other for mutual support, to share in joys and sorrows. And God works through his family to bring his good news to the world. 

We love our church - here are a few faces of Belfast FMC.

The Pastors

  • Pastor Jonathan

    Pastor Jonathan Coates began to serve the Belfast FMC community in late 2020. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2014 and later from Wesley Seminary in 2019. From 2014-2020 he served as the Associate Pastor of the Mattis Avenue Free Methodist Church in Champaign, IL, where he led youth ministry and oversaw the Christian Education team. He married his wife Kate in 2016. Their son, Josiah, was born in 2019. Jonathan loves being "on mission" with his family, and enjoys seeing how God brings about transformation in people's hearts. He also enjoys being outdoors, watching baseball, and spending time with friends and family (usually by playing a favorite game).

  • Pastor Bob

    Pastor Bob Mackmer came to serve the Belfast Free Methodist Church in September of 2001. This was his fourth church since entering ministry in 1982. He is a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College and Asbury Theological Seminary, but many in Belfast know him as a gardener, carpenter and a Lion. Pastor Bob and Lana (Chamberlain) got married in April 2017 and retired in December 2017. Pastor Bob now unofficially helps out in various ways in the church family.
